It's simple personal stupidity that takes people over the line. They know they can say what they like. And we (rightfully) can't stop them.

How do you get the media to stop making "news" that makes money? How do you get people to stop watching it?

Good point to the article, but when Pelosi says in an AP article that people need to start taking some degree of responsibility for the statements they make and what kind of people might espouse that sentiment (no matter how flippantly given), we don't hear, "Hm, well, she's not my favorite person, but that's not bad advice." We hear, "PFFFFTTT! You're an ass, so why should I listen to this? Where is all the bad stuff you've said? Bias!"

I don't know the way back to the middle.
