Notice I'm not comparing the '85 Bears to two years worth of broncos, packers, patriots, or whatever. It's one team vs another team. '85 Bears were the best defense in the history of the game. Yes, better than the elite bucs and ravens teams of this decade. The Bears did not allow a touchdown in the playoffs. Want to read that again?

I agree; the Broncos had a great D AND a great offense, as opposed to simply a great D so, no, it wouldn't be close; it would be a slaughter. Defensive pressure trumps everything else, eh? Like in Super Bowl V? Or Super Bowl XLI? You really think the Colts D was that much better than the Bears D? Or the Cowboys? The Titans had a better D than the Rams in '99, but who won the game? That's just off the top of my head.
The whole "offense wins games but defense wins championships" is another one of those axioms that sound like truisms until you actually examine them and find all the exceptions. It's a good guideline, but it's not an immutable law of nature.
