To many people distrust the media for it to be just the right who distrust them random thoughts Send a noteboard - 02/10/2009 04:15:50 AM
The the polls I looked at showed that the right were much less likely to trust them. Bias isn't the only reason I think people distrust the media, sensationalism is also a huge factor.

I do think the 24/7 phrase is misleading. None of the networks have even close to 24 hours of programming a day. After prime time they go into rebroadcast or in MSNBCs case they show other things. After the morning shows much of the programming is finical in nature and only skirts politics were it affects the markets.

Most radio shows run 3 hours while tv shows run for only an hour and I know there are three stations in Dallas that broadcast almost nothing but talk radio. Some of it of a rather scary nature. I heard that tool Mark Savage saying parents should not let their kids watch Dora the Explorer because they are being tricked into learning Spanish. No it doesn't make sense to me either.

I think the reason they make such a big deal about cable news is because it would seem like whining if they simply complained about Fox all of the time. I doubt the Obama administration feels that threatened by MSNBC and with the exception of Dobbs they don't have many worries at CNN.

Don't get me wrong it isn't that I don't think the turning news into entertainment shows hasn't caused problems I just think to much of the blame has been placed on them. for one thing we had yellow journalism well before we had TV so I don't believe simple volume is the issue.

I think who people are choosing to believe is a large part of the problem. I checked my e-mail before logging on here and saw an e-mail saying the ACLU was trying to make them remove the crosses from Arlington cemetery. I could reply with a link showing that it is not true but what is point? they won't believe me because they want to believe the ACLU is that bad. Even if they do accept that this story is made up they will believe the next stupid piece of crap someone sends them. They don't trust the media so they get their news from talk radio, people at church and loopy chain emails.
