As is, I could tell that I am not a quantum physicist... to me, the difference seemed mainly semantic. I'll happily admit that is a function of my limited knowledge over any problem of Hawking's, though.
When you find yourself in disagreement with a genius, it's quite a stance to admit he's the one in the wrong.
