Except that's not really what chess players do. We use chess as a simplification of more complex situations in analogies so much, that chess player has become synonymous for someone with deep analytical insights and wide-ranging calculations of all possible consequences, that we forget that chess players are not actually that. A literal chess player has a limited number of variables to consider, because he is making decisions based on the prescribed limitations on choices in a closed system. For a chess, or any sort of game, player to turn out to be rather simplistic in his mindset, and limited in his focus is actually exactly what should be expected.
Not that I disagree with your basic contention against Kasparov's analysis and A2K's method of making his point OR their views on the abilities of Reagan v. Obama.
