If you were in Beijing you couldn't see the tower if it were across the street some days.

I've tried to at least handwave that aspect by saying that the tower pokes above the haze on the horizon. Most of the heavy industry in this city is on the opposite side of the tower from where most of my story takes place, but I'll have to remember that the pollution will be worse when events take place on the other side. For the curvature, thankfully it's not an issue.
