Given everything you have written in the past - why do you want to go there specifically? LA and Hollywood seem to be so much more interesting based on your interests in movies and TV. If you want to venture out a little along the California coast head to San Diego and spend some time at the zoo and sea world and visiting Jeordam.

Yosemite looks gorgeous! There seems to be a road through it with lots of photo opportunities, no?
SF has a great reputation, too. YOU mentioned lots of things that rock about it
People keep telling me that LA has little to offer beyond the beach and Hollywood stuff, that downtown should even be avoided. Right now we're planning with a day to get through Yosemite, then two days SF, a stop down at the Highway 1 coast which leaves us with one and a half days for Hollywood and Venice beach. Seems to work for me, currently.
