If you look at the most popular candidates in each party's primary, you see that they are ignoring logic to make populist arguments that appeal to peoples' emotions. When more conventional candidates try to point out logical flaws, they are berated as being defeatist insiders or worse, as "intellectuals". People are starting to not know how much they don't know, which is another step down the road to Idiocracy.
I am supplementing my children's education at home with real, substantive education. We read books on science and history, I get out the Atlas to show maps and teach geography and my 6-year-old is learning Latin. I explained the accusative case and she never made a mistake once. We added the genitive case a few days later and are moving slowly but with marked progress.
