I'd speak up, as hard as that may be. Not only would I not want my friend to become what he hates most, but my friend also wouldn't get a pass for hurting people the way he's been hurt.
And I don't believe pussyfooting around the issue accomplishes much, any more than you believe pissing people off accomplishes much, so we'll have to agree to disaggree on that point.
