More significant development such as changing the way threads are opened/read/replied to are almost certainly off the table.

Good! The way the message board is designed is easy to access/view. If I don't want to read someones post I skip it...if I want to skim a thread to see who replied or what they replied can, if I want to skip around I can. I MUCH prefer the way threads are opened/read/replied to here than the way Facebook does it. I can read post made by people I disagree with if I want, or not if I choose. (because there are times that I do want to see what the other side has to say) Plus...
I'm REALLY, REALLY hoping you are considering keeping the site open.
