I didn't mind how they looked, and I didn't even mind that there were additions (Legolas, Tauriel, etc). I minded that it was nearly all completely ridiculous. I wouldn't have minded some silliness - the book is often silly. But Damn. Basic laws of physics should still apply, and CGI should be used sensibly. Flying, cyclonic headbutts are a no.
