Right now it is the green of a trout pool in summer. You can make out some of the moss on the rocks and boulders as the whitewater dances about in runs and eddies. The warm sun on the back of your neck feeds you with a warmth that is sucked from your feet even through the insulated waders. As the eyes are searching the patches of green and shadow looking for the shadow that doesn't quite fit. That is your prey.

Other times it is the color of sunlight shining through my wife's hair as she walks along a trail some late afternoon in August. The sun makes any little insect flying glow with an unnatural luminescence. The breeze is a welcome relief from the heat. The red-wing blackbirds are calling fro the cat-tails by the pond. As she turns and holds her hand to me in an invitation to walk hand in hand the halo of gold surrounding her face makes my breath catch just a little bit. That can be my favorite color sometimes.

Sometimes I just like red.
