1. I'd want to be certain it was an actual problem before assuming it was (he could be having a rough patch of life, rather than a diagnosable issue)
2. If the other person refused to accept that there might BE a problem and refused to try to find out/deal with it, that might be a deal breaker. The other way 'round probably would not be.
