Are you from a culture in which it's standard practice to tip for services?

standard, yeah I guess, at least in restaurants and cafes, other places not so much.
If so, for which services, and what's the standard where you live? What do you consider fair? Are there circumstances in which you wouldn't tip when you ordinarily would?

I am not sure what the standard is, I try to give around 10 percent, but I think that's rather high up there, most Germans give less or nothing, I would say. People have to fuck up rather badly or be really unfriendly for me not to tip at all.
Is it an expected thing for every visit or only at certain times of the year? When it comes to food and drink, is there a difference to you between restaurant and counter service?

all year round, I guess. I may tip less or not at all at counter service, since I did the walking them.
Have you worked a job where tips are expected? Encouraged? Hoped for? Do you think this makes a difference in your perceptions to those of people who haven't? Do you remember how well (or whether) people tip and does this make a difference in how you treat them if they come back?

we were not supposed to take anything from patients when I was paramedic. but sometimes we didn't object to a chocolate bar or something, money was rather rare.
If not, have you traveled in places where it's customary? What are your thoughts on it?

well, I know that it's rather big in the USA and tried to go with the flow there. in Sweden where I spent a lot of time as well, people did not seem to tip at all, because "it's already accounted for in the waiter's income". Hmm.
