Yes, those who move frequently understand. The Shrike Send a noteboard - 30/10/2009 01:39:44 PM
So, how do you feel about your books?

i love my books. i have around 1000, probably more. i've never counted.

Would you ever give your books away? Sell your books?

no, especially not the scholarly type ones.

Have any of you ever thought about why you keep your books?

reference, so my children can read them, so i can give them to people, stuff like that

I know many of you don't like the ideas of eBooks. That's fine enough. To each his/her own. This post is more about possession. About intellectual exchange, and what it means to be finished with a book. I don't consider it a mark of education to see or to not see books in a household. I know others who would never dream of getting rid of their books. I know plenty of people in tiny apartments who make use of the library.

so, i have a kindle, and i am moving towards having mostly electronic books. the ones that i'm not already collecting, anyway. sometimes i'll get both ebook and actual books, like if the book is freaking gigantic like anathem.

i definitely understand your point about moving, i sure hope that i won't be moving any time soon...
