Both religions were founded as cults and the Jehovah's Witnesses remain so.

However, Scientology is just stupid at a level that even Joe Smith couldn't get to. A bloated, pill-popping author of second-rate science fiction made it up as a joke.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
