We are to assume that there is no space in the chicken house reserved for a person to gain access? If there are rows or anything else at all, we're already cutting into that 1.5 chicken/sqft space anyway. Not to mention that a sqft is awfully small. Is there any height dimension mentioned?
A day by day blog showing how free range compares to intensive farming (it is to UK standards, which sound like fairly similar for the minimum standard)

flock-to-flock contamination is quite a problem if you're trying to not feed the birds antibiotics.
