I had a patient who was a stroke victim, who was a feeding tube, quality of life was decent, he could interact, communicate, just couldn't swallow. He was dependent on long term care. His medicaid ran out, then his private insurance ran out, so he was sent home to live with his wife who was not physically able to care for him, and he died a couple months later because he could not get the care he needed.
This happens all the time. Are people saying that because people are old, and can no longer care for themselves they should be sentenced to death?

The past is just that, the past. You can only truly live by looking to the future!
