But do it all casual. Like at dinner, ask him to pass the salt, then say "Thanks! Love you!". Then if he doesn't respond immediately you can just start talking about how great the food is or something. Just don't say it during...strenuous activities (if you are taking part in those with him). Cause it doesn't count if said during.
But if he doesn't respond, you'll clearly need to have the number to your local looney bin. You can commit people for being stupid...right?
