It's not that it is easier to let it go, it's that it is more healthy to let it go. I always feel better once I forgive someone. Negative emotions tax the body too much to keep holding onto them.

While I don't condone or endorse any religions, some reading of Buddhist philosophy can't hurt you. It is hard to forgive, but it is ultimately what one must do. And holding onto a grudge is not forgiving.
