I totally deserved it too. It was a light bap and I was more shocked than anything. If you're curious, I'd blown my tongue in his face when he was cross with me, which is not a very respectful or proper thing for a child to do.

Point is, I didn't go beating up other kids, or getting all traumatized. My father was most of the time incredibly passive with his treatment of us and always caring and affectionate. That he even struck at all was enough of a "you totally crossed the line" for me to know it and I never did it again. It wasn't fear, it was an establishment of a boundary. A smack upside the head never killed anyone and when the occasion calls for nothing less, then nothing less will serve.

But these are the idiots who'd tell you it's wrong to smack a horse for biting you too. blighters.
