I had no problems with them. And I don't even like the guy and hope he loses his reelection battle. The Shrike Send a noteboard - 12/01/2010 03:32:42 PM
Though the practice of preferring lighter-skinned Black people to darker-skinned Black people is racist, the comment about that is not inherently racist in my eyes. This even extends to women's hair as NYT article pointed out. Afros on men/women versus straightening of hair to make it more "white". It's just the truth. Same as saying that men have it easier than women in the workplace. That is not being sexist. That is stating a truth. Now the practice of preferring men to women is sexist.

Just like if I were to use the words nigger or kike in this sentence to elaborate a point would not be racist but using them to describe people would be.

So yes, it is a truth that to be a lighter-skinned Black may make it easier to be elected. And that is not racist in my eyes. And the diction of the speaker just completes the package. To me, though, it is always about education. The "blackcent" that Bill Cosby refers to is a sign of lack of education. And that is not something that I want in a leader.

I'm tired of the hyper-sensitivity of the American populace to race.
