So then if a Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland...

Using the proper methods, but tastes like TOTAL CRAP, it wouldn't tarnish the reputation of Scotch?
Again, if their product is just as good as Scotch, then I hardly see how it will drag horrible nonsense all over the Scotch name.
For example. There are a LARGE number of horses in the states from German lines. They have been bred in America for generations. But, a Trakenher is still allowed to be called a Trakenher if he meets he Trakenher standard. If you breed a horse that is not of Trakenher-standard, then his progeny cannot be called Trakenhers unless THEY then meet the standard. Also, you can have a horse of completely different lineage, but they can be approved for breeding more Trakenhers if they meet the standard But by golly, I have never seen a Trakenher that does not look like a Trakenher, or move like a Trakenher. And it has led to Trakenhers being more popular and more available to riders in the united states. But we all know they're of German standards and German lineage.
Comparatively, if the Taiwanese Scotch meets the standards for Scotch, it will always be regarded as a Scotch, and anyone who knows jack about Scotch will know that it came from Scotland.

There's nothing snobby about protecting a brand which makes a lot of money for your country.

Because Scotch indicates a type of Whisky, not ONLY its location.
