When I hear it often I usually hear "sacked for a 7 yd loss" at some point.

i'm pretty sure i saw the same game you did last night, and i don't draw the same conclusion that the saints must have been playing dirty to get that many hits on favre. remember that "hit" doesn't necessarily mean "knock on his ass by smacking him with your helmet", it can be as benign as giving him a shove the second after he releases the ball. this is where i think your emotions are running away with your analysis, because you seem to be equating "hit" with "knocked out" or at the very least "tackled unnecessarily", when in reality it was just a well played game by the saints defensive front.
and... if you don't believe all those hits didn't affect the game, then we *definitely* weren't watching the same game. because the entire game plan was to come after favre fast and hard and make him rush his throws. after all, we all know favre's history when he has pressure and makes snap decisions
this was just a great game plan by the saints and in no way reflects any intended animosity on their part, no matter how you try to spin things to your liking.

And while I did hear that in the game, it was only in reference to Brees. That, and a DC trained by Buddy Ryan (which is the only place emotion is a factor) make me very suspicious. It's one of those "possible, but not probable" things. I know the difference between a hit, hurry and sack. I also know the difference between a hit and a late hit.
And yes, I think they affected the game; I DON'T think they affected the OUTCOME of the game. I'd bet dollars to donuts Favre is on crutches today, and his throws were probably a bit more urgent knowing there was a rush coming that wouldn't necessarily stop just because he no longer had the ball. But, yes, I know Favres play well, too; as long as it's close, he's good for two picks, rush or no rush. Again, there were a lot of things that cost Minnesota this game, but I don't think the pass rush was one of them beyond keeping Favre (relatively) honest when it comes to challenging passes. All I'm saying is that just because punching the other coach in the face doesn't get you an extra TD that doesn't make it right.

Yeah, too bad the Vikings don't have someone like Rodgers waiting in the wings.

Flagged at least once, and I still think he was driven that other play, though it's open to debate.

Actually, I'm not sure what you mean; it was intended as a pure hypothetical.
