I did not expect Obama to come in and make everything sunshine and roses inside his first year. Or even that he wouldn't do things I might disagree with. Nor do I now think McCain would have the country in any better condition. The primary benefits you could have realistically expected from Obama becoming President were improved world opinion of the US (that happened), the teary-eyed joyful reaction of African Americans who lived through the civil rights era (it was beautiful and I would never regret giving them that) and, finally, keeping Sarah Palin out of the White House. Mission Accomplished banner on those three things.


Improving world opinion of the US. Sure, this can be a good thing...but then popularity is fleeting (which President Obama knows all too well).

Teary-eyed joyful reaction of African Americans who lived through the civil rights era...yes this was a powerful moment. However wouldn't the legacy be even more powerful if the one who was elected was doing a good job too?

And keeping Sarah Palin from the White House....well its not as though she won't be trying again. And well...McCain is still alive. *shrug*

Are the accomplishment of these three things worth what President Obama is currently doing? Blame for the current state of things cannot be rested completely at the feet of Pelosi & Reed.
