I can tell you that insurance is confusing. Your co-pay covers your doc appointment, but not necessarily any lab test/work they do there. I have BCBS as well (probably much cheaper plan than yours), and I frequently get the doc visit covered, but not the blood tests (not the whole cost, anyway).

I'd go through this to find a doc (little man pops up next to the name of results that are accepting new patients):

And then all you can do is ASK QUESTIONS. If I had opened my mouth instead of trusting that my doctor was giving me the right prescriptions/not trying to kill my budget, I would have saved a lot of money. You have to tell them that you're obviously concerned, or you wouldn't be asking them for help, but that you really have to limit the solutions to what is affordable and generics that are covered under your insurance.
