I'd go there because it's so different to everything I know. Also, Anne of Green Gables, just because I love her.
I would say The Sunne in Splendour but it was a very scary plaguey time to live in, despite the fascination and men with tight pants and swords

EDIT: Also, Last of the Mohicans-world. That or the just-pre-Revolutionary time in Carolina in Diana Gabaldon's books.
