But, yes, that does seem to be the point always missed in the whole "socialized medicine will eliminate choice" arguments. As someone who lived half his life without insurance I can testify based on my experience and that of many others that lacking insurance, and certainly lacking a job as well, often leaves those with serious conditions no "choice" but how they wish to die. Given a choice between a six month waiting list (not that I've ever heard of that happening to someone with a life threatening condition in a developed socialized country) and slow painful death, I think most people would jump on the former.
