I have to admit, I mentally snarled a bit at the knowledge that women still are not allowed in "combat" positions. I did not know that and I do not like it in the slightest.


While I think there is no reason why some women couldn't carry out the role to the same standard that is required of men, I think it creates other problems.
Potentially men are more likely to put themselves, and other men, in greater danger to protect a woman. Media coverage of death rates, bodies being flown home etc already heavily undermines the support for a war - I think the public reaction would be much, much stronger if the dead soldier was a cute 19 year old girl.
