are so freaking manly looking that if they lose in their category for womens, they could probably show up the next day for the mens section and compete...I really hope they are checking every athlete for steroid use...Figure skating is the only cool part of the Olympics and those chicks are pretty hot
The fact is, one gender tends to be overwhelmingly dominant at things requiring straightforward physical strength. It is not due to a particular mindset or societal roles and expectations, but to biological factors. Women's bodies are absurdly unsuited for physical competition, and the ones that are the most physically powerful naturally resemble male bodies, which are the next step up in physical superiority. Women on steroids don't look manly because that is some freakish side effect of steroids, it is because steroids maximize the factors that make one stronger, and those are the same factors that make men the stronger gender.
And figure skating is the least cool part of the Olympics. If there is not some obvious, objective and tangible criterion for scoring and determining victory, it is not a sport. It is a show, a performance competition or however you want to call it, but it is not a sport. Don't give me that crap about the physical requirements or necessary training time. You can say the same thing about a musician, especially with some wind instruments, or some contemporary "musicians" whose act centers mainly around lip-synching while dancing. Those require an enormous investment in time and effort and physical exertion (so, for that matter, does modeling or acting or beauty competitions which need you to stay at a certain weight) too.
That is why such non-physically challenging activities as golf or bowling, which, despite being easily undertaken by overweight people, are still sports. Did the ball go in the hole? Yes? That's it. You have an actual score, based solely on meeting indisputably objectives. Tiger Woods wins golf tournaments because he places the ball in the hole with fewer swings of a golf club than his opponents. A baseball team wins because they touch home plate more times than their opponents within a certain time frame. And so on. A figure skater wins because in someone's OPINION, they performed to a higher standard than their opponents.
And there is no significant figure skater in the Vancouver Games as hot as Lindsey Vonn or Julia Mancuso. Who perform actual sports, regardless of the levels of physical strain involved.
