Much like the military, the church (and other religious institutions more than ten years old) often find themselves using tactics that would have been great for the previous generation, but are less effective now. Some groups adjust better than others.
People are becoming more and more aware that their are things in the universe that cannot be quantified. The churches that welcome people asking those questions are growing. We'll see how it plays out.

Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. It's literally preaching to the choir, on such an insulting level none of it will last one day beyond the moment they realize they don't HAVE to let mommy and daddy pick out their clothes. That kind of garbage does more harm than good for the Church, because, ironically, it regurgitates the same message as the most strident atheist, that religious faith and contiguous brain cells are mutually exclusive. If you teach people they can't have their own thoughts and be religious, you teach them to abhor religion, whichever side you're trying to support.
