Quick NSSP background story on this. My sister's total lack of tool knowledge and her tendency since I got back in the states to trick me over to her place for mechanical chores culminated in me buying her a new tool set and box for Christmas - she has tools but they like to wander around, whereas I am notoriously anal about organization. Her excuse on this most recent occasion was she had all the tools but didn't know what they were called and couldn't follow the directions. I pointed out that the tools were individually labeled and the toolbox had silhouettes with descriptions. The new line is she doesn't really know how to use them, so I sent her a Youtube video, but she claimed - correctly - that it was fuzzy, had a lot of tech speak, and the guy in it was crotchety... I've never met a cheerful shop supervisor so the last is fairly unavoidable.
So I dug up this video, which I'd remembered from my favorite WWII-era ed and propaganda videos (I love that crap). Made by Disney and GM, it's sort of a classic, two parts, I'll link the first, it will probably have the link for the second but if not, you can paste it from below. Specialized sort of humor, but pretty educational if you're bad with tools or know someone who is. Little morning wake-me-up.
Personally I love this old school stuff, the only thing it's missing is a little off hand sexism or egocentric fist pumping about America. I guess a lot of men have seen this one in shop class, I'd be curious if anyone on this site has. I'd also be curious if anyone knows any more modern videos along these lines, as otherwise I'm likely to get dragooned into additional handiwork.

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
