Seriously, though, I haven't spent too much time in Mississippi except driving through it. What I know of it reminds me very strongly of, unsurprisingly, northern Louisiana. Most of the culture and the accompanying problems--poverty, education issues, racism--are the same.

As for the jokes about Mississippi, take heart. Ours invariably involve alligators.
