It's been a very strange few days in Dutch politics. In a few months there are going to be national elections (after the cabinet fell over Afghanistan) and we just had local elections. Now we're dealing with recounts for the local elections, numerous stories on things gone wrong during the election, the leader of an important opposition party quit last week, two (ex-)ministers (both were high on everybody's list to head their two respective parties either in the coming national elections, or in a few years) have announced they'll leave politics after the next election "for more time with their family" and one of the most influential politicians of the 20th century, Hans van Mierlo, died yesterday aged 78.

And on top of all that, it's Friday.
