that sort of ambiguity can be really irritating, but i usually take anything of this sort for what it's worth at face value. this probably means that i can't tell when a prospective date is happening, and have far fewer sexual encounters, but i prefer that to assuming too much all the time, which seems to be the alternative.

i can recall a circumstance where bumping into a girl at coffee shop turned into casually talking for a while, which turned into lunch/dinner, which turned into going to her apartment for a toke, which within a week or so turned into my sleeping in her bed. and at no point in this did i ever expect or necessarily want any of said events to transpire. i just think something is there or it isn't.
