There was an experiment a couple of years ago done by a couple in which they were trying to eat for $1 a day per person, for several months. They basically ate rice, beans, and tortillas. It worked perfectly, however, they were always tired and sluggish, because they weren't getting fresh vegetables, vitamins, nutrients, etc. You could probably do a 3 or 4 dollar a day policy and get along quite well.
But I'm not too worried about the cost. I'm hoping that with all the veggies, fruit, etc that I'll be eating that my personal results will be the opposite of that. No harm done if it doesn't work though.
