Are European history tests this difficult and comprehensive? Seems like one examination covers everything you've ever learned about history.

Matriculation examinations are the tests with which you get into a university, you take them at the third (and some at second) year of upper secondary school.
You must have some sort of equivalent, though I don't know what it would be.
(Though universities have their own exams, too, but I'm thinking that those are more informal)
We have SAT's or whatever ... if I remember correctly, SAT's are divided between 'math' section, and 'verbal' section, with a possible high score of 1600, I got a 1250 or something. There are no other subjects or tests unless they're administered by a university (and those are usually done after acceptance to see if you place in certain advanced classes).
There are some other tests, too. The SAT II or whatever they're called are subject tests (bio, chem, history, lit, etc.); there are also Advance Placement (AP) exams, which can give you college credit, but not really factored into acceptance criteria at colleges.
