Why does everything have to get shown?! Not even the movies showed the darkest recesses of Moria, because there's something so deliciously creepy about "You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame."

And I'm definitely not okay with people killing a Maiar, because I am ten kinds of positive people are going to end up killing Balrogs left and friggin' right.

I will happily eat all my words if they turn the Balrog into a giant, terrifying, completely-one-hundred-percent-invincible menace that will kill you the fuck up if you come anywhere near it. That would be ten kinds of awesome.

Rational counterarguments that a group of hobbits killed a Maiar vastly more powerful than Durin's Bane will be summarily discarded. We can't all be unlikely heroes.
