was how obvious they made their desire to have every character class fit into a pre-determined role. For example, there were clearly "tank" type builds and "d.p.s." (damage per second) builds, with the mechanics specifically defining who was good at what. I'm not asking to be a Spartan warrior one moment, a juggernaut in platemail (the Mountain That Rides) in another and then finally a mystic channeling the elements to pull apart the threads of reality, but I would like more control over my characters background. Why not have a mage from a noble background who became a apostate in the Wilds?
Origins was a great game, don't get me wrong, but I'm hoping that they are able to make Part 2 seem like more than a rehash of "Lord of the Rings".

I get the impression that Origins was all about getting people at home in the setting as fast as possible, and as a result a great deal of plot was shorthand of the genre. Yeah, there was a huge LotR influence, but there was also a solid scoop of practically anything else you could name. Martin, Feist, Jordan, etc.
As for your preferred origin, well, they just didn't get to it? I mean, I thought the six origins they came up with were fun and varied. They could have come up with more, of course, or just let you sort out your own, but then the origins would probably not have been as integral to the story.
