I get the idea of what's going on, but it failed to grab my attention. I've enjoyed web-based city/empire sims before, but the bit I played of Civ V simply didn't excite. I also don't know if I have time to play for the long haul approach, which is likely what full games require.

Might just be where I'm at in life and game tastes, though. Aside from the complex game system, it seems like a quality title. Well-presented, etc. Maybe I'll buy it on Steam months from now if it's on sale for cheap.

Unless you're playing it on the fastest setting, in which case you are probably missing a lot of the "fun" in micromanaging your nation anyway because the game moves too fast for some of the more subtle things.
