I think I'm also slanted against that first generation of 3D games.
Tell me about it. At least Ocarina of Time actually uses the 3D, so there's gameplay value in using it. The RPGs were way more disappointing. I would prefer the SNES sprites of Chrono Trigger over the blocky models of Chrono Cross any day. It frankly disappoints me when I think how much better games like that one, or Final Fantasy VII could have looked if they'd just stuck to 2D. It's not like the 3D actually improved the game in any way. If anything, it made it worse as pathing could be quite atrocious.
Incidentally, I assume this is understood, but we are talking about games that aren't ESPORTs here, right? Because otherwise it's simply silly to hold these games anywhere close to StarCraft.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
