Yet, like TIE Fighter, it would not exist without the original.

The sad thing is I've yet to have a chance to try Civ IV, even though a wonderful person gave it to me for free. In fact, the last one I played was Civ II: The Test of Time. It's been forever ruined for me since I accidentally deleted all my backups of the Extended Game on King where I racked up 9000 points, conquered the world and landed the spaceship all by 1800 (since the Extended Goal is "transcendance" rather than Centauri Prime, I actually landed in 1776 and had subjugated the alien cities within a decade). How do I top that? But I can't finish it either. I think my inner gamer died that day, but I still nostalgically dabble in my old favorites periodically.

The original Civ (the PC game, though the board game inspiring it is pretty cool, too.
