I remember being told by many people that Neverwinter nights was "more of a toolset than a game." Those I talked to seemed to indicate that it was just a way of bringing an actual game of D&D to the computer, and playing with friends. That didn't interest me at the time. It just seemed like one of those games with a campaign slapped on as an afterthought, and I wanted no part of that.
