I think the OP is full of shit. LadyLorraine Send a noteboard - 04/04/2011 01:23:28 AM
I'm not going to get in to how STUPID it would be for Bioware to cater their games to the straight-male player when such a large constituent of their players are women and all we want is some relationship (platonic or romantic) building and plot depth. It'd just be a stupid business decision.

I can't even see where he's coming from.

How, exactly, does DA2 cater less to straight male gamers than any other group? Since there obviously there's a sexuality question here, I'll mention that there are just as many man-woman relationships available as otherwise. Is it the ability for most of the relationships to be either gender what bothers him? Is it the very presence of homosexual relationships what bothers him (As if a straight male gamer wouldn't be THRILLED to generate his own lesbian scene)? Or is it just the propensity of the (bi) male henchmen to hit on the PC until the PC shuts them down? I struggle to see how he could have an issue that isn't him just being a bit homophobic.

He also does not address how the game feels less "male". Is it because Hawke isn't a grizzled and gravely war veteran covered in smudges, and apparently enjoys to relax in a Hugh-Hefner robe? Is it the availability of relationship development, warm-fuzzy feeling and the "sensitive" dialogue options (and his apparent inability to not choose them)? Or maybe he feels that the game is too feminine because brutish and destructive behavior is generally unappreciated by others (just like it is in REAL LIFE).

Is there some huge fluffy-pony streamer sparkle moment in the game I missed that gave him this opinion??

The only thing I can think of is that he's a homophobic sexist brute who thinks the only way to be a man is to smash things with a club until it breaks. His entire post just comes off as a sexist complaint that Bioware is too woman-friendly and should return to hitting their wives.

Maybe someone else knows what he's talking about? I mean, did I REALLY miss some really girlie moment when I was playing??

They're neglecting the gamer demographic in DA2. Sexuality has nothing to do with it. - 04/04/2011 01:33:45 AM 569 Views
yah they were pretty empty. The only reason I'm not irritated is that at least they're completed. - 04/04/2011 01:50:54 AM 598 Views
Don't worry; you'll be able to get it as overpriced DLC installments! *NM* - 04/04/2011 03:03:24 AM 268 Views

I don't feel bad paying for it, solely cause I never paid for DA1 *NM* - 04/04/2011 10:01:43 PM 316 Views

As far as excuses for developer laziness go, that's a pretty poor one. - 10/04/2011 12:02:23 AM 507 Views

Point of fact: in DA: O you're fighting the Fifth Blight, not the First. - 09/04/2011 10:10:17 PM 651 Views
Yeah seriously, the Fifth Blight was pretty lame in retrospect - 11/04/2011 04:01:03 AM 563 Views
That's pretty much true. - 11/04/2011 04:08:48 AM 514 Views

I think the fact that most NPC possibilities go either way is kind of weird. - 04/04/2011 05:41:04 AM 697 Views
