New PC: to build or not to build LadyLorraine Send a noteboard - 02/05/2011 04:16:46 PM
I'm considering finally caving and leaving the comfort of my compfy bed or bag chair and actually having a desktop again. I'm trying to decide whether to build a PC or just buy one with the specs I want.

The thing is, I've looked at the cost of the parts on Newegg, and those parts combined with the cost of Windows and Office (Yes, I know there is OpenOffice, and there are other OS systems), it adds up to about what I'd be paying for a computer with similar power ANYWAYS. Even with OpenSource software, it's still not that big a price difference when I compare a "desktop I would buy" to a "desktop I would build".

Is it worth it to build it if I'm going to have near the same computer for the same price anyways?

#1 reason to build your own: no pre-loaded bloatware. *NM* - 03/05/2011 04:52:45 PM 491 Views
It's a plus, but I'm not sure about #1. - 03/05/2011 05:26:29 PM 923 Views

Or just format when you get it. *NM* - 03/05/2011 06:48:47 PM 474 Views
With a pre-built you can't often do that. - 03/05/2011 07:19:28 PM 928 Views
for the record, sometimes stores will remove the bloatware for you - 03/05/2011 07:28:58 PM 860 Views
