Unsuccessfully trying to kill a dragon that would get stuck at random points in the air, would sometimes fly through the air at great speed backwards, and would not die at all, even though it's health was at zero... I'm inclined to think your course of action is for the best. If you can wait to get Skyrim, waiting until it has some proper patches will certainly improve your gameplay experience. I just couldn't wait, and despite such quibbles, I don't regret it. 
I have to say: Saints Row: The Third is probably the best game nobody is playing.
