You're a young teen who somehow gets some kind of superpower, along with a few other kids. But, and here's the key, not a lot.
You have enough power to feel responsible, but not enough to win.
Win against what? Not sure. But here's the Animorphs angle- it's something huge, seemingly unstoppable, and there's no one else to turn to.
Story would focus a lot on fighting unbeatable odds, not giving into despair, and trying to lead a double life.
There'd be team dynamics- say your supergroup is only 5 kids, you'd have to build rapport with them to unlock combos and stuff. The plot would often force the team to split up, and make you team up with different people at different times.
It'd be open-world, or close to it. Not a total sandbox, though- more like Deus Ex than GTA.
The plot would span a long time. Like, you start as a 13 year old, and maybe end up as 30, 40, in a world torn apart by battle after everything goes to crap.
