I want to do the same thing since I just enjoy games so much better with a controller. I THINK all you need is a wired xbox controller, since it's usb anyway. You can select that you're using the controller in settings, I'm pretty sure. I'll have to look into it more.

Assuming the game supports gamepads, all you have to do is plug it in.

Certain games, often those from XBLA, will ONLY support the 360 pad for the controller option.
