With the older games, I compensated for the graphics that essentially consisted of a thumb-sized cluster of pixels with my imagination, and with later games thy usually looked fine enough not to trouble me, but that short period I abhorred. The resolution was clean enough that you could clearly see the blocky models. The effect for me would be comparable to magnifying those old sprites until I couldn't help but see every individual pixel...
And really, I wouldn't mind if there was a point to the 3D, function taking priority over form, and as such I never really complained about games like Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time, but the RPGs like FF7 or Chrono Cross always irked me.
But now I've veered completely off topic. Chrono Trigger already had some of my favourite video game music, and it's amazing that Chrono Cross was actually even better. The one asterisk I would put would be the battle theme. I never liked Chrono Cross' battle theme.
