The only problem is that a lot of players don't 'get' the philosophical/literary themes of the game, and are confused there aren't any elves in it. Which is a shame as the game's ambition is astonishing. I don't think I've encountered another RPG, Western or Japanese, anywhere near as thematically ambitious as TORMENT.

KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC II, made by the same team, wasn't far off, but that was hamstrung by being released in an unfinished state. If it had been finished, it may have outclassed TORMENT.
